Seasonal hurricane forecasts

A number of agencies forecast the number of Atlantic hurricanes that will be formed each year. Many of them also forecast the total energy that will be produced in a season which is a much better predictor of property damage. The Accumulated Cyclone Energy is calculated by squaring the maximum wind speed every six hours - the totals are divided by 10,000.

This year, all of the forecasts point to a quiet season. A recent analysis reviewed the skill of these forecasts.
